Legal AI, built for Tanzania

Leksa exists because generic AI tools don't know Tanzanian law well enough to be trusted with it. We built the grounding first, then the assistant.

What Leksa is

Leksa is an AI assistant for legal practitioners in Tanzania. It does three things: answers legal research questions with verifiable citations, drafts court and commercial documents from your facts, and reviews batches of documents against a rubric. It works in English and Swahili.

Where the answers come from

Every answer is grounded in an indexed corpus of primary Tanzanian legal sources — Acts of Parliament, subsidiary legislation, and court judgments — including material from TANZLII (the Tanzania Legal Information Institute) and the official consolidated laws. Leksa retrieves the relevant provisions first and answers from them, citing the specific Act, section, or case so you can verify before you rely.

That design choice is the whole point: Leksa will tell you where an answer comes from, and when the corpus doesn't support an answer, it says so rather than guessing.

How the data is maintained

  • The corpus is curated and expanded continuously; new legislation and amendments — including the Written Laws (Miscellaneous Amendments) Acts — are ingested on a scheduled refresh cycle.
  • Answers about areas with recent amendments should still be verified against the current version of the law; every answer carries that reminder.
  • The current coverage focuses on mainland Tanzania. Zanzibar has its own legal system and courts; where a question turns on Zanzibar law, Leksa flags the limits of its coverage.

Who is behind Leksa

Leksa is developed in Dar es Salaam by a team combining Tanzanian legal expertise and software engineering, with the legal corpus curated in consultation with practising advocates. We are deliberately close to the profession we serve — much of the roadmap comes directly from feedback by law firms testing the product.
